Get Started On Your Reconstruction Journey

Our Process

At The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction, we know how daunting researching breast reconstruction information can be. Whether you were recently diagnosed with breast cancer or had a mastectomy years ago, our highly-skilled team is here to help simplify your decision and answer your questions.

The first step of the reconstruction process involves exploring your options. Many different reconstructive procedures are available, and some may better suit you better than others. You can also explore our gallery of images to see what results to expect for each procedure. If you have any questions, our team of experts are here to provide the information and support you need.

Once you're ready to take the next step, one of our doctors, either Dr. James Craigie or Dr. Richard Kline, will meet with you to discuss your best options and give you more information on the different procedures. If you are from out of town, we can often offer a telehealth consultation first to help you better understand the process before making a trip to Charleston.

Another aspect of preparing for a reconstruction surgery is, of course, insurance. The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 provides protection to patients who choose to have breast reconstruction after a mastectomy. Make sure you’ve discussed payments and coverage with your health insurer before your surgery, including getting all pre-authorizations in writing and making sure you are aware of any out-of-pocket costs you will have to pay. There is sometimes a difference between what you are billed for and what your insurance will pay, and you should be prepared ahead of time to avoid surprises. Our administrative staff also can help you with reimbursement questions.

Our reconstruction procedures most commonly involve multiple surgeries to achieve desired results. Before these surgeries, you'll need to make arrangements with your employer and be prepared to be out of work. In addition, you'll want to ensure that your house and family are in order with a plan of action regarding your care.

At The Center for Natural Breast Reconstruction, our team of doctors and staff are here to help make this process as easy and comfortable as possible. We understand that surgery is a big decision, and we are here to help educate you on your options and provide exceptional care. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our process, please reach out to our office. We look forward to helping you on this journey!
