Some Steps Toward a Healthier Life
While researchers continue to seek a cure for cancers, others are focused on the ways that we can all help prevent them from ever occurring. It may never be entirely possible to prevent cancer, but it is possible that understanding many of its triggers can lead each of us to make healthier choices.
Here are the top lifestyle factors (according to the Mayo Clinic) that can reduce your risk of breast cancer:
- Limit alcohol
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Stay physically active
- Consider limiting fat in your diet
- Talk to your doctor about hormone therapy and possible links to cancer
- Use pesticides and antibiotics with caution
- Pay attention to your breasts and respond to any changes you see
Meanwhile, for some women, lifestyle changes won’t reduce their risk. Some face genetic factors, pre-existing conditions and other issues that necessitate more intense responses. We cover some of those here.
